Wine

Wine Close in Wapping is the only instance of wine on London’s street signs. The history of Wine Close is intrinsically tied to the London Dock in Wapping, which held a monopoly on the import of wine and brandy into London from 1800 for 21 years. These luxury goods were stored in the dock’s vast warehouses and deep, temperature-controlled wine cellars.

Wine

Wine is an alcoholic drink made from fermented grape juice. Wine has played an important role in religion since antiquity, and has featured prominently in the arts for centuries. It is drunk on its own and paired with food, often in social settings such as wine bars and restaurants.
