Quince
Similar in appearance to a pear. Ripe quince fruits are hard, tart, and astringent. They are eaten raw or processed into jam, quince jelly, or alcoholic drinks. The term ‘marmalade’, originally meaning a quince jam, derives from marmelo, the Portuguese word for the quince.
