Plum
Plum Lane is perhaps unsurprisingly in Plumstead, south-east London; the name ‘Plumstead’ itself meaning ‘the place where the plums grow’. Plum Lane is ancient, with a history going back at least 1,000 years. Elsewhere in London, there’s a Plum Close in Feltham, a Plum Lane in South Hornchurch and a Plum Mews in Tooting.
Plum
Plums are stone fruits known for their smooth skins and juicy, sweet or tart flesh in shades of red, yellow, and purple. Plums are versatile and can be eaten fresh, used in pies, jams, and preserves, or distilled into alcoholic beverages. When dried, they’re known as prunes.
