Pepper

There are three instances of this spice on London’s street signs; Pepper Street is on the Isle of Dogs – and tenuously linked to the spice trade and ships that would have imported the dried peppercorns to the old London docklands. A second Pepper Street is in Southwark and there’s a Pepper Close in North Beckton. Additionally, there’s a Peppercorn Close in Thornton Heath.

Pepper

Peppercorns and the ground pepper derived from them may be described simply as pepper, or more precisely as black pepper. Ground, dried, and cooked peppercorns have been used since antiquity, both for flavour and as a traditional medicine. Black pepper is one of the most commonly traded spices in the world.
